Open Heart Surgery

Chloe finally had her open heart surgery to repair tetrology of fallot. She did amazing and probably will not need another heart surgery for many many years! She will still need yearly cardiology checkups with echos and will need valve replacements through her life but the main, big monster surgery is finally out of the way. She is the strongest little baby I know- stronger than me in many ways. I hope she is proud of her scars because it shows the battles she fought and won all before she even turned one.
For some reason I actually was not nervous about her going through this. I had a sense of calm the entire time. It might have been God because she had and still has so many people praying for her. I just feel like there is a reason shes here. Shes going to make an impact on this world.
After surgery, her surgeon, Dr.Langley, talked to us. Chloe's grandma Loretta and great-grandma Tammy were with me. Dr.Langley explained how surgery went and the future for Chloe. He was very very happy with how everything went and was able to put in a good size conduit which means if all goes well, no surgeries for many many years! I asked him if she can still have Tet spells and he replies, "that's impossible." at that moment we all cried happy tears. My blue baby is now a healthy pink baby!!. BTW a Tet spell is when a baby with tetrology of fallot cries, is too active, during feeding or even during bowel movements, turns cyanotic because of lack of oxygen.
When Kody and I finally saw Chloe for the first time after surgery we were surprised. It wasn't all the tubes, wires or sedation that surprised us (we have seen her like that quite a few times unfortunately). She was already extubated and awake! Yes she was very out of it but she was looking around and awake and the tube was not down her throat anymore. Chloe just had the vent going through the nasal cannula. Compared to recovery from her past surgeries, this was very impressive. When Chloe had her first open heart surgery at 3 days old she could not get off life support for over a week! Even the nurses back then did not think she was going to make it. Now look at her, kicking butt!!
